Métro Bistrot Resto! Where to eat in Paris, 2e partie.

My dear, poor, non-French people, Here is another list for those of you who are lucky enough to go and visit Paris. Restaurants you can just decide to go at (almost) the last minute. They are actually my favorites : it's more about daily great food, places where you can escape the sometimes too grey Paris, and warm up life with friends, family, or just you and your glass of wine. Don't try to test them all (except if you're staying for weeks)... Paris is ...

Be sweet ! Make a savoury pumpkin pie !

My dear, poor, non-French people, The more I live in the US, the more I’m amazed by how different and at the same time similar our cultures and minds are. Take pumpkins for example. Simple, round, orange vegetables. You guys turn them into horror masks... While we (among which French and perfect author Charles Perrault) imagined they could turn into a wonderful carosse that could also turn a poor damzel in distress into a glamourous princess… But we have this thing (among lots of others) in ...

Clap your hands for Clafoutis!

My dear, poor, non-French people, Here is a chance for you all to learn some of my beautiful native language. Want to say Summer in French? It’s very easy. Repeat after me. Cla-fou-tis. Ok, Clafoutis  does not exactly mean summer, (actually, in ancient French in means nailed!) but for most of my French and perfect friends, it's a synonym. Just hearing the word instantly takes me a few years ago, to the garden of my childhood home, back there in Loir-et-Cher. Summer is on, my brother ...

Go yogurt! Bake a French and perfect cake!

My dear, poor, non-French people, Forget about all the "life is like a box of chocolate" thing. This is absolutely nonsense for a French girl. You always know what you're gonna get with a box of chocolate! Du plaisir!  Pleasure! And maybe a little extra pounds... but pleasure mostly! So let me tell you how life works... La vie, c'est aussi simple qu'un pot de yaourt. Oui oui! Life is very easy. It's like a tub of yogurt. Ok, I'm not sure you'll find this French saying anywhere outside of this ...

Bite a gentleman! Bake a croque-monsieur !

My dear, poor, non-French people, When is the last time you bit a gentleman? I did it last week to tell you the truth, and always love it. Oui oui, in France, it's very common. It's so regressive... Of course you know that  "Croque Monsieur", a French classic ,  litteraly means "Bite a gentleman". This sandwich à la française can be found in any café or brasserie in Paris... And is a regular at a French and perfect home. My mom loved to cook it on sunday ...

From Paris with love : du Thé s’il vous plaît !

My poor, non-French people, Stop thinking that the English, that strange but very polite people who eat boiled vegetables and never behead kings or queens, are the only ones to know about tea. We French (and peeeeeerfect!) people also were able to colonize Asia (OK, it's not something to be proud of at all, c'est vrai) and bring back spices and tea. After all, we have Mariage Frères Tea! Et c'est très bon... Writing this post, I realize Mariage Frères tea was my first incursion ...

When life gives you lemon, make Citrons confits!

My poor non-French people, Please, stop thinking that time is never on your side... Yes, aging can make you better! At least when you're a lemon. C'est déjà ça! (At least that's something!) Let me share with you how to make one of the ingredient I use the most in my everyday cooking. Citrons confits are not a franco-french speciality in themselves, as they are mostly used in North African cuisine, but they're also part of many mediterranean recipes, and are great to ...

Chef Ludo loves Mimolette!

French and perfect chef Ludo Lefebvre is a foodie celebrity now, and I love that! I'm glad to see a Frenchman representing goodfood with smile and energy, and the way he plays with the character of the French "arrogant" chef. And he shows that French food is not about stiff-necked pointy nose old guys telling you what to eat and how... So I was very happy to meet him for the first time at the Grand Fooding Crush Paris-LA. Loved how he spoke about ...

Jean-François Piège loves mimolette!

French and perfect Jean-François Piège is the young chef everybody talks about. When he opened his flagship restaurant, Thoumieux, in Paris two years ago, he won two Michelin stars right away... I was honored to meet him and interview him at Le Grand Fooding Crush Paris-LA, and he was kind enough to support the mimolette fight, AND give us an idea as to how to use it in a dish. Hope you'll like it! Merci!   (and remember... Save the mimolette!)
